We have been very busy in the last two weeks out and about enjoying ourselves, although I am beginning to feel the strain a little now we’re home as I fear I’m going down with “Alice.”
What, I hear you ask is “Alice,” well all I can say is the doctor was unsure as to what it was but he was certain that Christopher Robin had gone down with it and lived to tell the tale.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly some people manage to post the story of their recent trip, it seems no sooner have we said goodbye and got home, they manage to upload to Facebook a full descriptive piece complete with a multitude of photographic images whilst I have barely unloaded the car.
However, I am delighted to say that Angella is now getting a little more relaxed about her image appearing on social media and I no longer have to make the joke about the Interpol arrest warrant having now laxed.
Firstly, our annual trip to Woodhall Spa, a wonderful place to visit for a forties weekend as the entire town embraces the wartime spirit, with classic cars scattered about, shops done up in the forties style, the entire woods are full with Army chaps and their equipment such that you feel the D Day landings can’t be far off.
Our favourite pastime was the tea dances and the evening dances, although the vintage shopping and a fly past by a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane have to be high on the list of fun things to see and do.
We have a tendency to live in the moment and enjoy the event which means we tend to never think of taking photos, although I think this image of Angella is rather lovely.
The only other photos we took were a rather sad reflection on modern Health and Safety that seems to be everywhere nowadays, the first seems to be stating the bleeding obvious to say the least.
The second also seems a little superfluous as I would have thought a wood full of troops ready to invade Normandy would have been more than capable of dealing with a small fire from a barbeque.
We always have a fabulous time in Woodhall Spa and can’t wait for next year.
I am a retired actor, although to be honest I only retired because I wasn't getting any work due to losing my agent when I became a full time carer to my mother who had dementia. and the option of becoming an unemployed actor/waiter at my age was ludicrous, especially as my waiting skills are non-existent.
Having said I’m retired, I don’t think there really is such a thing as a retired actor for I am still available for work, I just don’t have an agent or any connections with regards to obtaining any worthwhile work.
I have over the years done student films when there is nothing else available, always low paid (if at all) the only incentive was always the promised copy of the finished film for your show reel which nine times out of ten always failed to materialise.
I spent many years looking after my aged mother and shortly after her death I was lucky enough to run into an ex-girlfriend of many years ago and our romance blossomed once again, resulting in us getting married in 2013.
My move to the countryside inspired me to write The Diary of a Country Bumpkin which tells of my continuing dilemmas in dealing with the rigors of the countryside from the unexpectedly large number of pollens, fungal moulds and hay products waiting to attack the unsuspecting townie.
I enjoy writing, see my play Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori on The Wireless Theatre Company, The Plays Wot I Wrote and The Battle of Barking Creek both available on Amazon.co.uk and am very fond of classic cars so my ideal occupation would be acting in a film I had written set in the 1930s/40s, we live in hopes.
I am delighted to say that since venturing to the countryside where space is not quite the premium it is in town, I have due to the availability of two double garages acquired more classic cars to form a small collection the pride of which are a 1947 Bentley Mk VI and a 2000 Bentley Arnage.
My various blogs and websites are continually evolving and I’m sure that by following the appropriate links you will find something which will edify or amuse.
I have written a number of different books all available on Amazon, so don't be shy should you feel the urge to purchase. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mr-Joe-Wells/e/B06XKWFQHT/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1
A superb photo Joe!
I thought it was a good one.
The photograph is most joyfully uplifting, you both look so very happy. What a lovely way to spend your retirement.
Thank you, we are enjoying every minute especially the dancing.
