COUNCILS TOO STUPID TO COLLECT THE RUBBISH.

I was reading an article on AOL which said that Bristol City Council could become the first local authority to collect black rubbish bins once every four weeks and was minded to think, what a stupid idea and left the following comment.

However often they come round doesn’t make any difference, there is still going to be the same amount to collect and if they don’t take it, I imagine people will just leave it in the street until they do come for it. So, we will either end up with the streets littered with rubbish or they will have to change their tune and do the job properly and collect the dam stuff!

As I went to post my comment, I was warned to reconsider what I had written with a red warning sign saying Post anyway and the following suggestion.

Let’s make sure your comment is understood as you intended. A quick revision can help it get through.

I was even more surprised when I found my comment had been rejected and had to wonder, on what possible grounds could it have been rejected so I tried again with comment number two as follows.

As my previous comment was rejected, I have tried again with the following which I am hoping will be deemed suitable for the AOL bots. This doesn’t seem a very sensible idea to me.

To say I was pleasantly surprised to see my second suggestion was accepted would be an exaggeration as I had thought both comments had the same message although framed in a slightly different manner.

I really don’t like the idea that we are being censored like this especially as it seems to be happening more and more often nowadays, for are we no longer permitted to voice our opinions that a council service may not be up to standard? It’s not as if I was inciting anarchy and the overthrow of the government and the abolishment of the monarchy, for these are two things that are very dear to my heart.

Do feel free to comment should you have an opinion on this matter but do be careful what you might say for BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!

About The Diary of a Country Bumpkin

I am a retired actor, although to be honest I only retired because I wasn't getting any work due to losing my agent when I became a full time carer to my mother who had dementia. and the option of becoming an unemployed actor/waiter at my age was ludicrous, especially as my waiting skills are non-existent. Having said I’m retired, I don’t think there really is such a thing as a retired actor for I am still available for work, I just don’t have an agent or any connections with regards to obtaining any worthwhile work. I have over the years done student films when there is nothing else available, always low paid (if at all) the only incentive was always the promised copy of the finished film for your show reel which nine times out of ten always failed to materialise. I spent many years looking after my aged mother and shortly after her death I was lucky enough to run into an ex-girlfriend of many years ago and our romance blossomed once again, resulting in us getting married in 2013. My move to the countryside inspired me to write The Diary of a Country Bumpkin which tells of my continuing dilemmas in dealing with the rigors of the countryside from the unexpectedly large number of pollens, fungal moulds and hay products waiting to attack the unsuspecting townie. I enjoy writing, see my play Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori on The Wireless Theatre Company, The Plays Wot I Wrote and The Battle of Barking Creek both available on Amazon.co.uk and am very fond of classic cars so my ideal occupation would be acting in a film I had written set in the 1930s/40s, we live in hopes. I am delighted to say that since venturing to the countryside where space is not quite the premium it is in town, I have due to the availability of two double garages acquired more classic cars to form a small collection the pride of which are a 1947 Bentley Mk VI and a 2000 Bentley Arnage. My various blogs and websites are continually evolving and I’m sure that by following the appropriate links you will find something which will edify or amuse. I have written a number of different books all available on Amazon, so don't be shy should you feel the urge to purchase. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mr-Joe-Wells/e/B06XKWFQHT/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1

  1. I bet if you re-submit, omitting the last 5 words, it will be accepted. Welcome to the world of AI.

    • I suspect you’re right but AI seems to be so sensitive, it’s not as if I’m effing and blinding, it may be modern life but do I really have to get used to it? Lucky I didn’t use the words that were actually going through my head when I wrote this piece!

  2. My sister visited the UK just after the coronation and on her return commented about how much rubbish there was in the streets. She was there for 3 weeks so it wasn’t just post coronation mess. She also mentioned that many parks were overgrown and that she had seen signs asking the local community to volunteer to tidy up or the land might have to be sold. A sad state of affairs.

Our local council has just introduced fortnightly rubbish pick-up. At the same time they introduced a fortnightly green waste collection. We already have fortnightly recycling. I am fine with it. There’s only two of us. However, so e people with families feel that the regular rubbish collection is ot frequent enough.

    • We have alternate black then green every week which is fine but I wouldn’t want to go to monthly collections. Everyone who comes from abroad thinks this country is somewhat untidy especially London but I believe there are nowhere as many rubbish bins as they took them away to stop terrorists planting bombs in them.

      • When I worked for the railways they took the bins out of the trains. They said it was to encourage people to take their rubbish off the train. Instead it was thrown on the floor or stuffed down the side of the seats.

      • It’s a sad reflection of people today, for if you brought your rubbish with you one assumes you had it in some sort of container and that being the case you could return it to the container and take it away until you find a suitable bin to put it in. It seems fairly simple to me!
